Blog #3: Music and Religion
Music and Religion
I want to start this blog off by explaining my christian experience. As a child, I was raised in a Baptist Church and I went all the time. From signing hymns to sitting quiet in the congregation. As I grew older and got into sports, I began to fall out of church. I began to have practices during church times and slowly stopped going. Recently I changed my whole life around. I started going to a Pentecostal Church. Yes, at the beginning they are very scary and nerve recking. As I continued going, I learned many new ways to worship.
Pentecostal church style is mainly using worship and praising to the Holy Spirit to get closer to Jesus. They use techniques such as , talking in tongues, prophecy, healing, and exorcism ( the gifts of God). They experience the presence of God within themselves. Pentecostal Churches do not sit and listen to the preacher. They are engaged in every second of the service. During Praise and Worship services, you will have people shouting, running around, catching the Holy Spirit, etc.
So now, I am going to explain some of the music played in the services.
I personally love this song. This type of music is used at the beginning of services. It is mainly used for purposes as Praise and Worship. This song specifically guides you into the spirit of the lord before service starts.
This song is called an alter song. This is a song played during the alter call to help you connect with him, while praying. Personally this song did wonders for me. To explain this song a little better, it is saying he has been set free from all of is burdens and sin for a new lifestyle. There are so many different songs out there to worship to and feel in Gods presence. I am honestly the type to get up out my chair for my Lord and Savior. I enjoy these songs a lot and I hope you did too.
Thank you for reading my blog and exploring my religion.

I knew was Christianity was but, I never heard of Pentecostal church and it sounds like it would definitely be kind of never racking, but it also sounds great cool. I also really enjoyed the songs you choose, totally had me swaying to the music and I'm not a Church going girl at all. Great post!
ReplyDeleteVery nerve racking with all of the anointing and falling-out from the Holy Spirit.
DeleteI can definitely see " Chain Breaker" being a song to wake people up in the morning. It felt encouraging and uplifting. I think " Amazing grace" will forever be a Christian music staple no matter who covers it and how its sung. I liked Chris Tomlin's version of it.
ReplyDeleteI never really knew about what a Pentecostal church was but I am glad you shared your experiences. I think that it is really cool how interactive your services are. I really like "Chain Breaker". It feels like the type of song I would listen to when I am feel sad to lift my spirits.
ReplyDeleteYour recent experiences with the Pentecostal Church remind me of when I attended Baptist Church when I was younger. I remember my mother and grandmother always getting mad at me for staring at the people who'd "catch the Holy Spirit" and start speaking in tongues or fainting. I'm really not sure if I miss it or not. As I got older, I started falling out of the routine too.
ReplyDelete"Chain Breaker" is one of my favorite songs by Zach Williams. It really got me through some hard times. I'm glad you shared your religious experience. My parents have told me about Pentecostal churches and it freaked me out growing up but now I understand the different aspects of that type of church since I've gotten older. I have never been to a Pentecostal church though. I did something similar to you with slowly going to church less and less. All of the events in life get difficult to juggle but it's always nice to have a good church to fall back on.
