Music & Gender

Music and Gender

Hello everyone! I wanted to start off by saying I hope everyone has had an amazing week. In this blog, I will be specifically talking about Music and Gender. I hope you all enjoy it!

Stereotypes play a big part in this subject.

As I grew up, most people assumed white males listened to country music and black males listened to rap. That is not the case always. Music preference comes from where you are raised. As a child, the younger white females were "raised on Hannah Montana and Taylor Swift". As most people perceive , black females listened to old R&B female artists.

Gender has NOTHING to do with music. There are some circumstances where it does, but with your preference it does not. You are allowed to be white and listen to rap or R&B. You can also be colored and listen to country music.

I will now take you into a step in my life. As a child, Yes I always listened to Disney music and danced around my living room ( as a child should be able to). Middle school really hit me differently with my musical choices. I started hanging around different cultural people and it changed me drastically. I grew up listening to old shag/beach music with my grandparents. As I hit an older age and changed schools, I grew into rap and R&B music. I was also the only white girl on the basketball team, so I stood out very well. I have always been am outcast my whole life. I was always the tallest girl. I finally figured out that music does not define me. Now I have learned to open myself up to anything, so I listen to about any type of music but Christian music play a huge part in my life.

Below is different genres of music I listen to now:

I hope you all enjoyed this blog and learned something about me and the topic. I wish all of you a wonderful weekend and great start to next week. Always remember, we have made it this far. Keep up the great work! Stay safe!

  1. Hey Mackenzie! I really enjoyed your post especially the first half. Stereotypes should have no place in the world of music and yet they are, I'd like to think as the years have gone on we've calmed down on that a bit. And I also so happy you've learned to not be ashamed in the music you enjoy, that's so important and took me a bit to over come as well. Lovely Post, Mackenzie, Just lovely :)

  2. Great blog Mackenzie! I am really glad that you have learned to open yourself up and not really care what others think. I am still having that problem with myself. But I totally agree that gender in music should not be stereotyped either. I believe that if a person has a voice for it, then that person should sing it!

  3. What I really enjoyed about your blog is that you put your childhood, and own experiences into it. I agree that gender has nothing to do with music. I believe that no matter what you look like, or who you are, whatever makes you happy, makes you happy. It is always good to open up to other types of genres, it really shows you a different perspective on life. I look forward to your next blog!
